Add some poetry magic to your next event.
What kind of events does Typewriter Rodeo do?
Everything!
Our typical gigs are corporate, creative, and schools, but we’re happy to type poems at almost any gathering — weddings to nonprofits, kid-friendly to adult-feisty.
We also do keynote speeches (e.g. “Poetry Saves the World”), music shows with local bands, and weekly radio poems for NPR.
While we’re based in Austin, we have chapters in Seattle, Denver, NYC, Los Angeles, Oklahoma, & North Carolina — and travel anywhere.
Corporate
Think poetry and business don’t mix? We’ve brought the Rodeo to huge national conferences for companies like PayPal, Audi, and EA. And smaller groups like law, medical, even actuarial — sure, there’s poetry in insurance stats!
By getting a poem one-on-one, guests can feel “seen” at what is typically a crowded, noisy gathering. And as the evening progresses, guest share their poems with other attendees — often to yelps of delight.
“The most delicate, creative memento I ever took from a corporate event — from any event, as a matter of fact.”
Roberta Bronzatto, PayPal conference attendee2016
Creative
Custom poems are an ideal way to celebrate creativity. We’ve done events for museums, festivals, fundraiser galas, and arts groups of all sorts. Our typewriters have clacked out poems in the halls of the Smithsonian, Seattle Art Museum, and Austin Thinkery. We’re a fixture at literary celebrations like the Sun Valley Writers’ Conference and Nantucket Book Festival, as well as fundraisers for nonprofits.
“Your poems are wonderful and I am going to have mine framed and hang them side by side. People must tell you all the time that you touch their lives - if they don’t, they really should.”
Deborah Fisher, Barnes & Noble2017Schools
We adore school & library visits! We offer both the “traditional” Rodeo of typing poems, as well as our poetry workshop for students. Not only are they fun, our workshops help students practice the core skills of writing, reading, and communication face-to-face — often by writing gift poems for each other.
“Your workshop was wonderful preparation for our 5th graders, who then hosted their own Typewriter Rodeo. Thank you for showing these kids how unstressful and fun it can be to write poetry! By far the most successful event we’ve had this year.”
